The review of today is of the book Mr Mercedes by the American author Stephen King.

The book is the first one of a trilogy that concentrates around the stories of Bill Hodges, an ex detective now in retirement and Holly Gibney, a woman that suffers from multiple tics. 

Mr Mercedes focuses on the still opened case of the homonymous killer, known as Brady, afterwards in the story, that killed lots of people standing in front of the Auditorium where a job fair would have been taking place later in the morning for unemployed people. 

Hodges is going in retirement right after this case happens and Brady, is somehow obsessed with him that he starts spying on him daily and then risks to send him an anonymous letter telling him he's the one that did it. 

Thanks to the help of Janey Patterson, the sister of Olivia Trelawney, the girl whose Mercedes has been stolen, and later on of Holly Gibney, Janey's cousin, will try to resolve the case, not letting the police know. 

Will everything go according to plan? Will they manage to catch the bad guy? Or is it going to be too hard since Brady will show his true colours of being a complete deviant.

I actually liked it a lot but if I need to be honest, I wouldn't pick it as my favourite of his. I preferred way much The Outsider, but we also need to consider that they're two different genres. 

Mr Mercedes is crime while The Outsider is supernatural. 

Anyway, it was a really enjoyable reading even though the guy was a complete psychopath and lots of time I felt like I just wanted to smack the book away haha

At then end I would rate it 4/5 :)

Hello :) It's been a while since the last review, but sadly I haven't had much time to read lately. 

Today's review will be about a supernatural thriller.

Today's book will be The Outsider by the American author Stephen King.

The novel sees the police investigation of a young boy, Frank Peterson, being brutally murdered and assaulted physically, in the little town of Flint City in Oklahoma. 

This case will not be an easy one for the detective, Ralph Anderson and his colleagues. 

All the leads, proofs and testimonies seems to take to only one possible suspect: Terry Maitland, a respectable man, known by everyone in town because he's an English teacher and the coach of the baseball team of young boys, of which Peterson was also part of. 

This will lead to the public arrest of Maitland in front of all the people present at the stadium where he was coaching his team. This act will of course shock everyone, since no one would expect something like this happening. 

Maitland, though, after talking with his lawyer, seems to have a really strong alibi. He was in fact out of town during the day the boy was murdered. To prove his innocence there are also other testimonies from the people who were with him during this book event in Cap City and a video footage of him asking a question to the author being hosted to this event. 

Then how is it possible that on the body of the boy and on the white van that was found abandoned close to the scene, there are his finger prints all over the place? How can someone be in two places at once? 

Nothing is as it seems in this psychological and supernatural thriller written by the master himself :)

Once again Mr. King didn't disappoint me. The Outsider was a true masterpiece of this genre. 

The story kept me hanging and I couldn't stop reading because one scene after another was just breathtaking and horrifying at the same time. 

With this book, King manages one more time to give you those horror goosebumps you experience while hearing or watching something disturbing. 

From this book, was also made a tv series of last year from HBO, called of course "The Outsider", go check it out too :)

IT is the 22nd book written by Stephen King, and it's probably considered the most famous one, with Misery, Shining and Carrie.

The novel is divided in two periods and is based on the experiences of seven children that are being terrorized by an entity called IT that primarly appears as "Pennywise the Dancing Clown". It exploits the fears and phobias of the kids to disguise itself while hunting the prey.

The book starts in 1957 - 1958 in Derry (a small town in Maine) with the "disappearance" of the six years old George "Georgie" Denbrough because of "Mr. Bob Gray" aka Pennywise.

Georgie was Bill's brother, one of the seven children of this book. 

The novel goes through the fears of these kids as you can see since IT can take the shape of what frighten them: clowns, mummies, giant and scary birds, blood and so on.

During this period the "Loser Club", formed by: Bill (Georgie's brother), Ben Hanscom, Eddie Kaspbrak, Richie Tozier, Stan Uris, Beverly Marsh and Mike Hanlon; is being haunted by Pennywise and the group of bullies led by Henry Bowers. 

At the end of the summer they "manage" to fight IT and swear a blood oath to return to Derry if IT would have returned.

The second period is set in 1984 - 1985. The Loser Club is now adult and most of them are now successful in life. Everyone, except Mike, who still lives in Derry and works as a librarian. 

He calls everyone from the group because he suspects that Pennywise might be back since a lot of weird events as the disappearance of children and the death of an adult.

They all return there because of their blood oath. 

Their return to the town they grew up in, will reopen old wounds that seemed forgotten.

Is Pennywise really back? Was he ever gone?

In the book, you will discover all the little secrets about it. It's a really big book, but it's worth it, as you will never get bored with it. If you like horror and want to experience some thrills of fear, then you really can't miss it :)

The books I recommend you for this month are:

«The Lovely Bones» by Alice Sebold

This book isn't the usual story about a girl being murdered by a psychotic. It offers us another point of view of what happened, the point of view of Susie, the victim.
Susie Salmon, yes, like the fish, talks to us from her personal "Heaven" and watches as her family and friends struggle to find peace and to move on with their lives when they have to face the fact that she is dead, that she isn't there with them anymore.
The only ones who seem to want to know the truth about what happened to her, are her father, Jack, and her younger sister, Lindsey.
The title comes from a quotation that Susie said at the end of the book, when her friends and family finds the strenght to go on.

«Misery» by Stephen King

If you like the genre then you can't really miss to read it.
The book is a psychological horror thriller, focused on Paul Sheldon, a writer famous for books about Victorian-era romance, that talk about the character Misery Chastain.
One day, because of a car crash, due to a snow storm, he is rescued by a fan of him, Annie Wilkes, who then transports him to her house and once she finds out what he did to her favourite character, Misery, forces him to write another story, no matter what it takes.
Annie will turns out to be a completely psychopath, and this book describes it very well, making you feel the same feelings of Paul, the same fear of her.
Her character is scary and amazing at the same time and you're going love it.

«Harry Potter» by J. K. Rowling

I couldn't obviously not include what is one of the best sagas ever written and one of the most loved too.
Harry Potter with his seven books has conquered lot of readers, and some of them have grown up with him. Like me for example.
The books are full of wonderful meaning about love, friendship, fighting for your beloved ones and many more.
I would recommened to read all the seven books, not including the 8th one, "The Cursed Child", because honestly, it's not worth it.
