Today's review will be about the book The Silent Patient, by the British-Cypriot author Alex Michaelides.

The book was published in 2019. The story is narrated by an English psychotherapist, Theo Faber, which is dealing with a patient who turns mute after a murder.
Alicia Berenson's life, the patient, seemed perfect. She was a famous painter married to a fashion photographer, living in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of the most desirable's districts of London.
But one evening everything changes for her. Her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and she shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks anymore.
Her refusal to talk or give any explanation turns this tragedy into a media event, casting her into notoriety. She then gets interned into a psychiatric hospital, the Grove.
Theo Faber, our narrator, has waited a long time to work with her, because he's fascinated by this case. His determination to find the truth will unravel though some secrets that maybe would have been better if they were staying hidden.

I loved it, because I'm really into psychological thrillers and this one surprised me for good. I've heard many good things about it because it was pretty popular on the bookstagram and it did not disappoint me.
The ending was shocking and unexpected so I liked it even more because it was not a cliché at all.

Il libro è stato pubblicato nel 2019. La storia è narrata da uno psicoterapeuta inglese, Theo Faber, che ha a che fare con un paziente che diventa muto dopo un omicidio.
La vita di Alicia Berenson, la paziente, sembrava perfetta. Era una famosa pittrice sposata con un fotografo di moda, viveva in una grande casa con grandi finestre che si affacciavano su un parco in uno dei quartieri più ambiti di Londra.
Ma una sera per lei tutto cambia. Suo marito, Gabriel, torna a casa tardi da un servizio di moda, e lei gli spara cinque volte in faccia, e poi non parla più.
Il suo rifiuto di parlare o di dare qualsiasi spiegazione trasforma questa tragedia in un evento mediatico, portandola alla notorietà. Viene poi internata in un ospedale psichiatrico, il Grove.
Theo Faber, il nostro narratore, ha aspettato a lungo per lavorare con lei, perché è affascinato da questo caso. La sua determinazione a trovare la verità svelerà alcuni segreti che forse sarebbe stato meglio se fossero rimasti nascosti.

L'ho adorato, perché mi piacciono molto i thriller psicologici e questo mi ha sorpreso positivamente. Ne ho sentito parlare molto bene perché era piuttosto popolare sul bookstagram e non mi ha deluso.
Il finale è stato scioccante e inaspettato, quindi mi è piaciuto ancora di più perché non era affatto un cliché.
