Today's review will be about the novel The Hidden Lives of Colours; and the book Tokyo All The Year: A Sentimental Journey in the Big Metropolis by the Italian Japanese author Laura Imai Messina.

They were published in 2021 and 2020. Now a new book of hers will soon be out called "The Island of the Heart Beatings".
The story of the first book takes place in Tokyo, and all around the big town.
It talks about a girl, Mio, who's born with a gift. A special sight, she can see every little hue of a colour and give it a proper name, especially to the ones that are invisible to a normal eye.
In the atelier where her family sews brides' kimonos, she learned since she was little the power of details, discovering the hidden lives of colours. But she's not the only one keeping a secret in this story. A boy, Aoi, has the sensitivity of figuring out the person whose in front of him. His job is to organise funerals and to accompany the livings and the dead in their darkest day.
One day their paths cross making them mix as complementary colours. Their encounter, though, they'll soon figure out, it wasn't casual at all.
The second book instead is a year journey through Tokyo, from Mutsuki (January), the month of the affections, to Shiwasu (December), the month of the occupied bonzes, until the heart of Tokyo, where nothing is definitive.
Tokyo is a city full of story, tradition, symbols, not only modernism as we are used to see. Enriched by the illustrations of Igort, this is an ode to Tokyo, its inhabitants, its streets, legends, dreams.

It was my first time reading anything by her and I was in love.
I really liked them both. The first one was poetic and went smoothly. I appreciated the fact that there was a glossary at the end of the book for the Japanese words, so I managed to learn stuff I didn't know.
The second one instead, I adored it. It made me want to visit Tokyo even more than I did before.
They're both recommended: 5/5!

Sono stati pubblicati nel 2021 e nel 2020. Ora uscirà presto un suo nuovo libro intitolato "L'isola dei battiti del cuore".
La storia del primo libro si svolge a Tokyo e in giro per la grande città.
Parla di una ragazza, Mio, nata con un dono. Uno spettacolo speciale, può vedere ogni piccola sfumatura di un colore e dargli un nome proprio, specialmente a quelli che sono invisibili ad un occhio normale.
Nell'atelier dove la sua famiglia cuce i kimono delle spose, ha imparato fin da piccola il potere dei dettagli, scoprendo le vite nascoste dei colori. Ma non è l'unica a mantenere un segreto in questa storia. Un ragazzo, Aoi, ha la sensibilità di capire la persona che ha di fronte. Il suo compito è organizzare funerali e accompagnare i vivi e i morti nel loro giorno più buio.
Un giorno le loro strade si incrociano facendoli mischiare come colori complementari. Il loro incontro, però, capiranno presto, non è stato affatto casuale.
Il secondo libro invece è un viaggio di un anno attraverso Tokyo, da Mutsuki (gennaio), il mese degli affetti, a Shiwasu (dicembre), il mese dei bonzi occupati, fino al cuore di Tokyo, dove nulla è definitivo.
Tokyo è una città piena di storia, tradizione, simboli, non solo modernità come siamo abituati a vedere. Arricchita dalle illustrazioni di Igort, è un'ode a Tokyo, ai suoi abitanti, alle sue strade, alle leggende, ai sogni.

Era la prima volta che leggevo qualcosa di lei e ne sono rimasta innamorata.
Mi sono piaciuti molto entrambi. Il primo è stato poetico ed è scorso velocemente. Ho apprezzato il fatto che alla fine del libro ci fosse un glossario per le parole giapponesi, quindi sono riuscita a imparare cose che non sapevo.
Il secondo invece l'ho adorato. Mi ha fatto venire voglia di visitare Tokyo ancora più di prima.
Sono entrambi consigliati: 5/5!
