Today's review will be about the book The Book of Two Ways, by the American author Jodi Picoult.

It was published in 2020, so it's pretty recent. The story unfolds step by step the life of Dawn Edelstein.
She's on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement. The plane is going to crash. She prepares herself thinking that she's going to see all her life passing in front of her, but the shocking thing is that the thoughts are not of her husband, or of her daughter, but of a man she last saw fifteen years ago: Wyatt Armstrong.
Dawn used to be enrolled at Yale for starting a career as an archaeologist focusing on the Ancient Egypt, but something sadly happens that makes her change her whole life.
Now in Boston, she is a death doula, a person who helps ease the transition between life and death for patients in hospice.
As the story develops, she is left with two possible futures while secrets that seemed to be buried deep down start to unravel. Dawn must confront the questions she's never truly asked: What does a life well-lived look like? What do we leave behind once we leave this earth? And who would you be, if you hadn't turned out to be the person you are right now?

I actually enjoyed it and once again Jodi Picoult didn't disappoint me. She's a really talented writer.
I loved the parts about Egypt, because I'm deeply obsessed with that: the mythology, the history, even the culture.
I didn't like the main character and the choices she made through the book, especially because they weren't so okay since she had a daughter, but I got her point and why she made it. The ending was touching because everything seemed to go back to normal.
It's definitely a 5/5 (:

È stato pubblicato nel 2020, quindi è piuttosto recente. La storia racconta passo dopo passo la vita di Dawn Edelstein.
È su un aereo quando l'assistente di volo fa un annuncio. L'aereo sta per schiantarsi. Si prepara pensando che vedrà passare tutta la sua vita davanti a sé, ma la cosa sconvolgente è che i pensieri che ha non sono su suo marito, o sua figlia, ma di un uomo che ha visto per l'ultima volta quindici anni fa: Wyatt Armstrong.
Dawn era stata iscritta a Yale per poter avere una carriera come archeologa incentrata sull'antico Egitto, ma purtroppo accade qualcosa che le fa cambiare tutto il corso della sua vita.
Ora a Boston, è una doula di fine vita, una persona che aiuta ad agevolare il passaggio tra la vita e la morte per i pazienti in hospice.
Man mano che la storia si sviluppa, le rimangono due possibili futuri mentre i segreti che sembravano essere sepolti nel profondo iniziano a svelarsi. Dawn deve confrontarsi con le domande che non si è mai veramente posta: che aspetto ha una vita ben vissuta? Cosa ci lasciamo alle spalle una volta lasciata questa terra? E chi saresti, se non ti fossi rivelata la persona che sei adesso?

Mi è davvero piaciuto e ancora una volta Jodi Picoult non mi ha deluso. È una scrittrice davvero talentuosa.
Ho adorato le parti sull'Egitto, perché ne sono profondamente ossessionata: la mitologia, la storia, persino la cultura.
Non mi è piaciuto il personaggio principale e le scelte che ha fatto attraverso il libro, soprattutto perché non andavano così bene dato che aveva una figlia, ma ho capito il motivo per cui l'ha fatto. Il finale è stato commovente perché tutto sembrava tornare alla normalità.
È sicuramente un 5/5 (:
