Today's review will be about the book The Old Man and The Sea, by the American author Ernest Hemingway.

It is a short novella written in 1951 in Cayo Blanco, in Cuba, and published in 1952.

In 1953, he was awarded with the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and it was cited by the Nobel Committee as contributing to their awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Hemingway in 1954. 

The book tells the story of Santiago, a Spaniard immigrant who lives in Cuba and is an ageing fisherman. One day, on one of his fishing trips he catches a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Cuba. 

The whole book sees the fight between man and animal for survival.

I didn't have any expectation on this one, but I didn't like it so much. 

It was pretty boring, especially since I'm not so fond of fishing and the whole story concentrates on him catching a pretty big fish, and it doesn't even end good. 

Thankfully it was short at least, so I've finished it fast. 

It's a 2/5, but if you like complicated books you can give it a try (:

La recensione di oggi riguarderà il libro Il Vecchio e il Mare, dell'autore americano Ernest Hemingway.

È una breve novella scritta nel 1951 a Cayo Blanco, a Cuba, e pubblicata nel 1952.

Nel 1953, è stato insignito del Premio Pulitzer per la narrativa, ed è stato citato dal Comitato Nobel per aver contribuito all'assegnazione del Premio Nobel per la letteratura a Hemingway nel 1954.

Il libro racconta la storia di Santiago, un immigrato spagnolo che vive a Cuba ed è un anziano pescatore. Un giorno, durante una delle sue battute di pesca, cattura un gigantesco marlin lontano nella Corrente del Golfo al largo delle coste di Cuba.

L'intero libro vede la lotta tra uomo e animale per la sopravvivenza.

Non avevo aspettative su questo, ma non mi è piaciuto molto.

È stato piuttosto noioso, soprattutto perché non mi piace molto la pesca e l'intera storia si concentra su di lui che cattura un pesce piuttosto grosso, e non finisce nemmeno bene.

Per fortuna almeno era breve, quindi l'ho finito in fretta.

È un 2/5, ma se vi piacciono i libri complicati potete provarlo (:

Today's review will be about the book White Nights, by the Russian author Fedor Dostoevskij.

The novel is a short story, originally published in 1848, early in his writing's career. Like many of his stories, this one is told in the first person by a nameless narrator. 

Set in Saint Petersburg, it is the story of a young man who suffer from loneliness and fights his inner restlessness. 

He gets to know and falls in love with a young woman, during these white nights with a light and tender narrative it delves into the torment and guilt of unrequited love. 

Both protagonists suffer from a deep sense of alienation that initially brings them together. The story is a blend of romanticism and realism. 

The title is referring to the 80 or so evenings that run from May to the end of July, when the city emerges from long months of cold and darkness and celebrates the brief return of nearly round-the-clock daylight.

I liked it and since it was really short, not even 80 pages, I've read it fast. 

At the beginning it started a bit slow but then it captures you in fully. The ending was devastating though, so get ready for it.

It's a 4/5, recommended (:

La recensione di oggi riguarderà il libro Le Notti Bianche, dell'autore russo Fedor Dostoevskij.

Il romanzo è un racconto, originariamente pubblicato nel 1848, all'inizio della sua carriera di scrittore. Come molte delle sue storie, anche questa è raccontata in prima persona da un narratore senza nome.

Ambientato a San Pietroburgo, è la storia di un giovane che soffre di solitudine e combatte la sua inquietudine interiore.

Conosce e si innamora di una giovane donna, durante queste notti bianche, con una narrazione leggera e tenera approfondisce il tormento e la colpa dell'amore non corrisposto.

Entrambi i protagonisti soffrono di un profondo senso di alienazione che inizialmente li unisce. La storia è una miscela di romanticismo e realismo.

Il titolo si riferisce alle circa 80 sere che vanno da maggio a fine luglio, quando la città emerge da lunghi mesi di freddo e oscurità e celebra il breve ritorno della luce del giorno quasi 24 ore su 24.

Mi è piaciuto e siccome era veramente breve, nemmeno 80 pagine, l'ho letto velocemente.

All'inizio è un po' lento ma poi ti cattura completamente. Il finale però è stato devastante, quindi preparatevi.
